Premise
I had a hard time reading this one. It started off really well and it was fast-paced. Logan (Lo) is our Heroine and she is starting over in a new place with her younger brother. They are running from a past that deals with a drug addicted mother, a manipulative relationship and the “bad area” of town. We meet our Hero (Dare) who lives there and owns the popular tattoo shop. He is broody, damaged and doesn’t think he deserves anything good in his life. They have a fun meet-cute and you can kind of tell where it is going. Lo needs to find work, he owns a business… boom.
Great Beginning
As I said, it started off great. It had some mystery, some tense moments and fun between our main characters. The secondary characters are fun, but there is no real depth with them. I don’t know if they are from different books or have possible books coming in the future, but I wanted to know more about a couple of them. Dare has some great friends that you only get a glimpse but they are pivotal to who he is as a person. Lo has a coworker at the bar she also works at who is spunky and becomes a great friend, but you don’t really get to know her. A lot of the story is about Dare and Lo, which, ok, they are the main characters so it should be about them but you have to give some credit to the secondary characters.
Losing Steam
To put it bluntly, the story becomes all about the sex. With romance, you have levels of how explicit the content is. You can find the levels, as I view them, explained in more detail in another blog post here. This story has great detail that doesn’t get too explicit. I have read some very erotic, explicit books in the past and have come to the conclusion that they are not my “cup of tea.”
Too Much Sex
I liked the scenes in this story in the basic level of how they were written. The issue I had, is it became too much. As the story heads to the climax (no pun intended and I also have an issue with that part but I digress) it seems that every time our characters are together, they do it. Now, there is nothing wrong with that but give me some more variety. There were too many scenes written in detail that it took away from the actual story. I really enjoy the authors who have those very descriptive scenes, but then they fade to black in other scenes. There was a lot of wasted pages on sex scenes in this book that I lost interest. I actually put it down about 70% through and read a different book completely before coming back to end this story.
The Big “O”
As I said above, the climax of the story wasn’t enjoyable to me. It felt rushed and all of a sudden we were at the end and I had to sit a minute to realize that, yes, I was now reading the epilogue. I had a feeling as I was reading the book that how it was going to be told and what would “break the camel’s back” was in fact, right. Dare finally tells us why he thinks he doesn’t deserve love and what happened in his past, but so much more could’ve been done with it. Yes, it isn’t as bad as he thinks it is and Lo loves him anyway but with how he acted and those involved in his past, I feel he doesn’t actually get the closure he needs. It’s mentioned that people in the town don’t like him or look at him badly because of his past, but then there is no real closure to that part of his life. Does the town still not like him? He might not care how people view him, but a little closure to that part of the story would’ve been nice.
Recommendation
This book is part of a series. Right now there are three total, this book included. I did read the first book and I might do a review on it, as I liked it slightly better than this one. I have not decided whether or not I will actually read the third book. It is the story of Lo’s younger brother a few years into the future from Bad Intentions. I’m not very eager to read it as I will other authors. Charleigh is a great writer and I might try other books of hers, but this book I could take or leave. It was good but left me feeling “meh.”
Where to Look
You can find this book on Amazon. I read it through Kindle Unlimited which is where I find a lot of my books. Take a look at her work and if you find a book that you like or would recommend, let me know!
Until the next book.
Happy reading!
